   Q. A question for Byron. In his opinion, who is the greatest Newbridge player he’s played with or against?

   A. I have had the pleasure of playing for and against some superb Newbridge players during my career. There is one player however that stands out above the rest - Paul Turner. When I joined from Newport my confidence was at an all time low, and Paul galvanised my career from there. I learnt so much during this period and his ability to kick off both feet were second to none. He was very much ahead of his years even then, and this has now been demonstrated with his prolific coaching career. I regard ‘Tommy’ as being a real inspiration to my career’.

   I would also like to add that I also regarded Peter Crane and Hemi Taylor as being superb players during that era, but at a push it has to be Paul.

   Q. Was any effort made by the coaches and team manager, to talk to the players who have left the club over the last month and did you try to persuade any of them to stay.

   A. Yes, we were as disappointed as anyone that players felt that the grass was greener to join other clubs in the area.

   With any new coaching appointment there are changes in personnel made for a variety of reasons. Certain players will not always take to a new coach, and other clubs target players due to these changes. This has happened for a long time, and will continue to so.

   I don’t think it is fair on the players who have left to comment individually, however I would like to take this opportunity to wish these players all the best with their respective new clubs.

   We are trying to build something at Newbridge and with anything this is going to take time. It has been a disjointed season thus far with the untimely death of Junna, however as a management team we have to make decisions that all will not neccesarily agree with.

   Q. A question for all coaches and managers. What do you think is most important, 1. Developing Academy players for Prem clubs and the Region or 2. winning promotion to the Premiership by using our best players for every game? I personally don’t think we can win the league with immature players as they will come unstuck against a bigger, stronger, more experienced side.

   Q. Why is there such a lack of communication at the club, both on and off the field? Some of our better players have left mid season now and the club has tried to shut down all criticism of the management and coaching actions.
7. Newbridge RFC 12.11.07 / 1pm

   A. As a management team we are all accountable for our actions, however decisions at all levels will not always satisfy everyone. I agree that talented players have left mid-season, however that happens in all clubs during a course of the season.

   As well as losing players we have also recruited with one eye on the future with the captures of Dragons U20′ players Tom Edwards, Richard Powell and Tom Watkins. We have also recruited Shaun Thomas from Bedwas who was being chased by several premier sides. Looking at the bigger picture, the club is actively seeking an appointment of Director of Rugby to oversee all levels from U’8’s to the first team.

   An announcement will be made shortly.

   Q. For the Committee.

   I tried to look at the prices of Newbridge Kit, hoodies and other equipment on the web site today only to find that the site is down again, but before that i found no details of items sold in the club shop on the web site.

   Does anyone think that the club is missing a trick again…?
9. Newbridge RFC 1.7.08 / 10am

   A. Newbridge RFC are pleased to announce that there is a new website which will be available to accommodate these types of requests. As I am sure you are aware we have had numerous technical difficulties previously with this, hence our reason for modifying it.

   I look forward to hearing your comments with regard to the availability of kit etc on the new website.

    Q. Hi, I am an old friend & colleague of Dennis Hughes (one-time number 8 for Newbridge). I understand from another colleague that Dennis has moved to France which is where I now live. If anybody has information which would help me contact Dennis & Mary again I would be most grateful.
