Head and shoulders above the rest

The club are delighted to announce the appointed of Mark Thomas as our head coach as we bid to get our promotion push back on track.

Mark will work alongside our backs coach Nigel Way and team manager Chris Jones, and they will be aiming to show more of the form that saw us defeat league leaders Pontypool 31-07 in a friendly last weekend.

Our team manager Chris Jones stated, “Mark has started to lift the gloom and that’s good because I’m sure Steve would be telling us all to just get on with it!”

“He is very much in the mould of a Gwent forwards coach and he is more than happy with what Steve put in place at the club. Like myself he is ambitious and the aim is very much to get promotion as soon as possible.”

“We are looking forward to the Sarries (Newport Saracens) game and we need to start picking up points because Pontypool have certainly made a cracking start.”

“We’ve dropped a few points ourselves but I think we have been unlucky and we certainly have a good set of players, and the likes of Gavin Ashman are playing out of their skin.”

Kick off Saturday against Newport Saracens is 2.30pm at the Welfare ground.
